The first time my dad did the ABSA Cape Epic was in 2008 I had no idea that I would one day have the privilege of riding this race with him and soon I will.

I know it’s going to be quite tough and I am definitely nervous for this event, but I am also very excited and so blessed to be given this opportunity!

Friday: And we’re on our way!

We got to Lanseria Airport and our bikes are already on route to Cape Town! We’re all packed – the whole nine yards – and on our way.

We’d like to give a special shout out to our friend Hylton Hastie from ASG for providing us with high-tech eye protection with their Rudy Photonyk Sunglasses and keeping our heads protected with  Rudy Project Boost helmets.

And today was extra special, as it was our dear friend Hylton’s 50th Birthday! Happy birthday!

Saturday: One more sleep!

With registration done, we caught up with some old friends and had the fuel of champions (milkshakes, of course).

Anton Smal from Cycle House made sure our bikes will run as smooth as silk, our race numbers are prepared and he’s affixed our timing devices, racing boards, and numbers (thanks Anton!).

We took the bikes for a short spin to test if all is in order and made the final adjustments!

Our dinner tonight is line fish and vegetables and our nutrition consist of high proteins post stages as well as at dinner. We’ll have a slow, consistent feed of electrolytes during stages, and a touch of carbohydrates.

“We look to nature .. and learn from the predators – aint never seen a lion eat pasta! So our fuel is protein!“

Prologue tomorrow – we’re ready!
